PUNIC WARS.

The punic wars were a series of three wars fought between Rome and Carthage from 264 B.C. to 146 B.C.

At the time, they were some of the largest wars that had ever taken place.

The main cause of the Punic Wars was the conflicts of interest between the existing Carthaginian Empire and the expanding Roman Republic. The Romans were initially interested in expansion via Sicily part of which lay under Carthaginian control.  At the start of the First Punic War  Carthage was the dominant power of the Western Mediterranean, with an extensive maritime empire. Rome was a rapidly ascending power in Italy, but it lacked the naval power of Carthage.

 Las guerras púnicas fueron una serie de tres guerras libradas entre Roma y Cartagonova desde el 264 a.C. hasta 146 a. C. En ese momento, fueron algunas de las guerras más grandes que jamás tuvieron lugar. La causa principal de las Guerras Púnicas fueron los conflictos de intereses entre el Imperio cartaginés existente y la República romana en expansión. Los romanos inicialmente estaban interesados ​​en la expansión a través de Sicilia, parte de la cual estaba bajo el control cartaginés. Al comienzo de la Primera Guerra Púnica, Cartagonova era la potencia dominante del Mediterráneo occidental, con un extenso imperio marítimo. Roma era un poder en rápido ascenso en Italia, pero carecía del poder naval de Cartagonova.
